Hi! I’m Amelia
I've been painting for twenty years. Probably longer.
I got lost in my first sketch during a family yard sale when I was about ten years old. I found an old kitten calendar and drew one of the pictures with surprising accuracy, and showed it to all my family who replied with the appropriate ooh’s and ahhh’s. When I look back now, that’s the moment that sticks out to me as the moment it all started.
Painting came much later, as a teenager. I'd sneak out of school and drive to the lake with my paints to spend the afternoons by the water. It didn’t result in a good GPA, but it was very good for my soul.
I knew I wanted to study fine art at university, but somewhere along the way I lost my confidence in the path I’d chosen. I changed majors more than once, and even took a semester off to write my own fantasy novel. Eventually I graduating with a bachelor's degree in Telecommunications.
Through every job, relationship, and season of life, I kept coming back to painting. Sometimes regularly, sometimes only now and then. I eventually came across a saying that remarked how ‘your purpose is the thing that keeps coming back’. That really struck me, and all I could think of was art.
Becoming a mother has changed something too. My daughter has a way of cutting through the noise and reminding me what matters. She gave me the courage to take my work seriously and build something I have always talked myself out of before. This website, the dragon collection, and everything that's still to come exists because of her and my husband. They remind me every day to keep showing up, even when I’m tired or uncertain.
I'm so grateful that this path led me here, to this deliciously wild idea to paint my favourite fantasy worlds and create an entire collection centred around dragons. If you've found your way here, whether you're simply looking around or choosing to support my work, thank you. It means more than I can say.
